Baylandi

Originally, the scarf was used to protect people from the elements. It then evolved into an accessory for women. As overcoat became fashionable at the start of the 20th Century, men embraced the use of the scarf to protect their neck. Since then, scarves have been used by Designers to express themselves through fine quality and eye catching prints.

In 2020, with the lockdown and the introduction of social distancing, the scarf takes on a new role.  The Baylandi* is not a mask, nor is it a neck scarf or a head scarf or a belt. It is all of these at the same time and therefore an essential demanded by our time.

Like everybody else, Caroline Bayle found herself on lockdown at home in Paris. She used this unique, unprecedented period to observe and imagine an ideal and elegant accessory which could have many different uses. She created a reusable accessory, respectful of social distancing etiquette.

Coming from the Fashion and Hotel Industries and now a brand consultant and adviser, Caroline Bayle recruited her own mother, herself a seamstress to set up a small «home atelier». She found fabric merchants and couturiers having worked for big Fashion Houses and proceeded to multiple tests of shapes and models on more than ten types of female and male faces.

Her idea was to design an elegant mask with luxurious fabrics which is neither just an accessory for well-heeled city slickers nor a passing trend. She wanted a mask that is a joy to wear after weeks of dressing down. An accessory that elevates the whole idea of a mask and is a pleasure to wear wherever you are, whether in town, on a trip , travelling by train or by plane or simply out in public. When it is not worn as a mask or as a real distanced and distinguished all-in-one scarf, the Baylandi takes on several functions, seven for women, three for men, and without anyone suspecting that it is also a mask. In addition, because it doesn’t touch your ears, the Baylandi enables you to wear earrings and headphones comfort
